UPS-operated MD-11 (registration N285UP) just after landing at Cologne Bonn Airport, with flaps, slats and spoilers still deployed. You may know that I adore the MD-11, simply because it's the last trijet to be seen here on a regular basis, though only for freight service. And I love this head-on view, making it look 100% badass!
Sorry about the inferior quality, but it was a very hot day, and I was shooting at full zoom through a window. Still, I thought the unique view of three turbofans makes up for that, don't you think?
This was taken after we had gone through security, waiting to board our Germanwings flight to Budapest. And because the gate area is even closer to the tarmac than the terminal, it was only natural that I immediately grabbed my camera and looked for the best possible photo spots. I think I'll upload some more plane pics today, as my train shots have gotten a bit repetitive lately. Now I know that most of you aren't plane fanatics, but a little variety can't hurt.
Random Fact: When we went through the security checks, I was asked whether I had a camera in my bag, since they saw something camera-ish on the x-ray. It turned out to be the big tele lens that I was asked to unpack, so they could rub their little test cards for explosives across it.
Heh, let's hope they'll be around for a few more years to come! I have the fortune of living under the approach path, so I can spot these from my balcony: [link]
