I wanted to dedicate this photo from yesterday to the Deutsche Bundesbah, the former German Federal Railroad of West Germany, which existed from 1949 till 1994, when it merged with the East German Deutsche Reichsbahn to the Deutsche Bahn we know today. I wanted to thank them.
Thank you!
For electrifying this very line in 1959, reaching the 5000 kilometer mark of electrification by 1963. For commissioning some of the most reliable, long lasting, powerful, and beautiful electrics. For fighting the battle against cars and planes instead of just accepting defeat as seen elsewhere. For introducing cost efficient DMUs to replace steamers in order to save branchlines or at least extend their lifespan. For building a high speed network that spans the entire country, starting with high speed engine pulled trains, taking the step to powered head driven trains, which have evolved into EMUs everyone would recognize as the ICE today. For being the first to commission the first ever multiphase electric to be built on a large scale, setting new technical standards. I'm quite happy to live in a country that has a well maintained, modern, functioning and dense rail network with a rich history. Yes, there are shortcomings, but where there's light, there are also shadows.
A member of DSO pointed it out to me that this shot could just as well be from many years ago, as the hardcore foamer would immediately note by the looks of the engine. Rain gutters, old style vents, metal DB logo instead of a sticker etc. He said that it looked very much like an old ad to showcase electrification, so I did some minor editing to concentrate on the catenary and high voltage poles.
well, since I'm still more of an art-fan than a railfan, I always wanted to suggest that you convert some of your pictures into black & white (because I love b/w and I think it really fits such photos well), so I'm really glad to see this picture, which is interesting as always, but also nice to look at.
That is true of course, but either the steamers had to go, or the branchline would have had to go. The people relying on the railroad to get to work and back home are probably more interested in a working line near to their place, rather than what railfans are interested in.
There are quite a few things the DB could have done better, but when looking at how things developed in other countries, I feel that they did a fairly nice job developing the railway through the ages.
Got some unscannable artwork? Own a camera but no scanner? Here's a guide of things to consider in order to effectively take quality photographs of your work. [A tutorial by `fox-orian]
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

Unfortunately some measures did not quite work and some worked too late so that the spreading of automobilisation could not be stopped.
Das Bild ist sehr schön geworden! Man sieht all die Details. Grafisch sehr interessant.
