Epic by shenanigan87 Epic by shenanigan87
I don't think I need to elaborate on why I chose this title, eh?

Former Prussian P8 departing from Solingen towards Wuppertal. Normally, I'd babble about the engine's history here, about how almost 3800 units were built and how this engine type was rather successful and widespread in Germany and in what was once Germany, but those who are interested probably know or know where to look it up. This unit was built in 1918, owned and operated by the Eisenbahnmuseum Bochum-Dahlhausen.

This weekend, the Müngstener Brückenfest (bridge festival) takes place. If you don't know that bridge, Torsten just uploaded a few pics. It's the highest railroad bridge in Germany, rising 107 meters above the river Wupper. A bit of a shame that it only sees class 628 DMUs, which are all but epic, except for some days like this Saturday and Sunday.

There are two steam trains, one with 38 2267 and one with 78 468 that run in circles between Solingen, Wuppertal and Remscheid, using the said bridge of course. I also thought about going to the bridge to shoot a train going across, but come on, the internet is full of train-on-Müngsten-bridge photos. And if you know me, which I assume you do, you know that I like to get as close to the engine as possible (hence the lack of landscape+train shots in my gallery). It's just my style, and I stand by it. To be honest, I can't think of anything more epic than a steamer taking off like this. I bet the driver let the wheels spin several times on purpose, to make it even more epic. Yeah.

One can also get rides aboard classic Uerdinger Railbus trains, which are very nice too. Germans call them "Retter der Nebenbahn" (saviour of the branchlines) because they could keep some less frequently used lines open that were not profitable with steam or diesel hauled trains.

Only problem: Huge crowds, making it extremely difficult to get shots of the engine, so I feel very heroic right now. And some people were of course too stupid to not walk across the tracks, and to not just walk past barriers. Luckly, there were only a few cases of trespassing, and those who did trespass got barked at by DB Security guards immediately.

Thanks! :) But I don't really like using square ratios, it seems a bit awkward most of the time.

I did try b+w, but the only thing that changed was that the McDonald's logos where faded out, and the entire pic seemed to have less contrast, so I left it like this.
