Description

Today's fail: Wanted to shoot the 103, but due to "technical problems with the railway line" in Leverkusen, there were delays and overall chaos. When the first double decker commuter came through on the S-Bahn tracks, I liked the unusual sight. Normally, these trains would use the two lefthand tracks, while the righthand ones are used exclusively by S-Bahn trains. I was actually hoping for the 103 to approach on that track as well, which would've made for a neat closeup. Instead, when the 103 did come along on the "correct" track, another commuter approached on the S-Bahn track. The inevitable result: 103 obscured by tall double decker cars. This is the first time ever that this has happened to me, and not due to regular traffic but thanks to DB's patented chaos. The double decker stopped just behind me, presumably to let the 103-hauled train pass before changing over to the regular trackage.

Thankfully, I managed to avoid being affected as a passenger. Got home just fine, and upon disembarking, heard the announcment that the next train had been cancelled. Good job I didn't wait for that one then. And while walking to the station exit, I also saw a third generation ICE standing on open trackage. Looks like some poor fools have much more sever problems than I did. Good thing I don't commute by train any more!

More pics of my fail day can be found on on DSO.

EDIT: Someone on DSO claims that all of this was caused by a rail breakage at a switch.

Yup. That broken rail will cause trouble for miles in all directions. Even worse if it caused a derailment.
