This is the train that took me home after I shot this:
Quite interesting how different a driver's reaction to a railfan can be. Some are rather enthusiastic, they toot their horn, they flash their lights, or wave at you.
This one however was apparently scared of the big bad railfan. I admit that I was wearing a black hat, which made me look very very very menacing. A bit like this, even with the very same jacket.
So the driver pulled down the sun visors as far as they'd go. And then pulled them up again just after he passed me. I found it a bit laughable to be honest, almost like covering your face whenever you see a tourist with a camera near the Cologne Cathedral. Imagine if his wife finds these on the internet, him driving around in his girlfriend's locomotive!
I did think about running down the platform to shoot the train again, just to see how he'd react, but I don't want to provoke anyone. Whenever I post photos on DSO where one could see a driver's face, I usually smudge it, before someone complains about me invading his privacy. My fave situation of this sort was that of a conductor, sitting in the cab car at the back of the train as it pulled away from me and some other railfans. We shot the train, as usual, and afterwards noticed that the conductor had apparenlty ducked down behind the dashboard. Could make an animated gif out of that one...
Of course, things did get ugly once, when a driver, not the one in the arriving train but the one who was about to take it over, told me about how photography was prohibited, how I'd get my camera taken away, and whether I wouldn't have anything better to do. He got a letter of complaint, and I got an apology from DB.
