Didn't know what to upload today, so I went for this night shot that I took while waiting for a steam train to come around.
This was the train I used to take to university each and every day, the RE5 from Leverkusen Mitte to Duisburg Central Station. I even made a video about my daily commute to illustrate what it was like on a somewhat less overcrowded day. The train is normally pretty much packed in the morning, as the entire population of Cologne seems to be working in Düsseldorf for some reason.
If you've been watching me for some time, you know all my reservations towards public transport. Yes, it can be great if you live in a place where driving is even more of an ordeal, or if you want to cover longer distances that would be pretty exhausting to drive. But I'd still rather take the car. Because in my car, I'm alone. I don't have to listen to anyones music or endure anyone's bodily odor, I don't have to squeeze myself against a wall of strangers, and I don't have to stand around on station platforms because my train is late again. Yes, there can be traffic jams. But sitting in a traffic jam, in my heated/air conditioned car, compared to standing on a gusty platform in winter or in a train with broken AC in summer...
I like to photograph trains, but I sure as hell don't miss riding them.
Awesome night shot! I love this consist of BR 146+double floor cars! Also, I am one who still travels on the train but mostly because I don't own a car of my own. Because honestly, when I am able to get my own car, I'll stop riding on trains... Maybe just once in a while but having that freedom we have with our own mean of transport is something different. Its really noticeable for trainspotting, for example!
Well, that was the only reason I traveled by train as well, most certainly didn't do it for fun or practicality. Before I had to commute by train, I never felt the need for a car. But traveling by train each and every day made me want one more than any car ad in the world.
Also, I am one who still travels on the train but mostly because I don't own a car of my own.
At least there'll be a ski trip to look forward to, provided I survive Christmas.
