Description
Photo from my visit to the wastelands.
I've already shown you what the destroyed village of Holz looks like. This here is the new Holz, which was built not far from the old one, on the other side of the Autobahn, where the pit won't consume it. The power company RWE had promised to rebuild their little chapel, which could be found at the central square of the old village, as seen here. You can see it in the background, in a different colour, but it's a chapel nonetheless.
I have to say, the new village is just as creepy as the destroyed old one. Everything is neat and tidy. Too neat and tidy. Almost as if this was all justs a fascade, an alibi for the destruction taking place elsewhere. Devoid of any roots, like an old oak that lived for decades and suddenly gets uprooted and planted somewhere else.

When the St. Lawrence seaway was built, towns had to be relocated too, but in that case, the houses were lifted off their foundations, trucked to new lots, and set down upon fresh foundations at the expense of the taxpayers whose money paid for the canal.
