Friday the 13th

Superstitious people fear Friday the 13th like no other day of the year, but for me, it was all about adding another zero, because Friday is 103-day!

Went to a different photo spot this time, which I had only visited once before. Not very interesting in terms of background or landscape, but the slight curve is perfect for some low-angle frontal shots. And you all know that I like to have lots and lots of locomotive with little landscape.

So here we have IC 2410 "Hanseat", making its weekly run from Cologne to Flensburg, hauled by 103 184. It's interesting to note that the driver must've forgotten to switch on the headlights, something that's mandatory these days. But back in the good old days ^(TM), it was commonplace for trains to run without their lights on during the day.

What can I say, I simply adore the magnificent 103, Germany's most powerful locomotive.

UPDATE: The driver himself just replied to my post on DSO, explaining that he felt a "slight jolt" just before the photo was taken, accompanied by a number of warning lights coming on. This also explains why he is looking towards the right side of the cab, as that's where some other indicator lights are located. In the end, he managed to get everything going again, including the headlights.

And he liked the photo!
