Received a package that I've been looking forward to for quite some time, namely my belated b-day gifts from a certain Neil Mullins, aka ~acela. Among the gifts were a whole bunch of quarters, since I started collecting those during my recent visit to the US. In case you didn't know, there's something called the 50 State Quarters program, with each US state receiving its own unique design on the reverse of the quarter. We even bought a collector's quarter folder while I was there, which I can now gleefully fill up. And since I managed to find some national park quarters, the package also contained a collector's folder for those, pre-filled with some quarters that Neil managed to find since my visit. Only have five of those myself, so there are plenty left for me to hunt down, if I ever visit the US again.
But the most imaginative item in the package had to be this one, a porcelain mug with an external, heat-sensitive fuel gauge! Had to try it out right away with some hot water, and you really do see how the indicated level quickly rises to match the level of the hot beverage. Though sloshing it around like I did also lets it climb higher, so please forgive the incorrect readout on the photo.
It's not just some random gift, but probably a response to my fuel economy babble, since we Europeans can't enjoy the luxury of extremely cheap gas that Americans have. If your car and driving style gets you an average mileage of 67mpg, with the trip computer even hitting 90mpg sometimes, it can often lead to efficiency-envy.
Truth is, I always try to refuel when gas is cheap, even if my tank is more than half full sometimes.
And a funny coincidence: I'm actually wearing last year's gift right now! Thanks a lot for both!
