Description

Took this while we were on our way from Mahé to Praslin aboard Cat Cocos Isle of Mahe, one of the modern high speed ferries responsible for inter-island traffic. Kinda liked how this container ship was perfectly framed by the passengers and the deck's roof, though it took a few attempts to catch this, since our vessel was rocking quite substantially. Later on, we encountered heavy rainfall and much larger waves, leading to some puking passengers. Me? I was mostly just worried about keeping my camera dry, while the crew scrambled to unroll the vinyl sidewalls you see rolled up at the roof's edge.

The container ship in question is the Hansa Victory, a German vessel, which did somehow surprise me. It always seems like all the rustbuckets you see in faraway ports are registered to some third world nations that have lax to nonexistent safety regulations so the shipowners can cut costs, but this one doesn't fall in that category. Built in 2000, she is currently sailing for Maersk Line, as also made obvious by the containers.
