Felt like submitting an older shot (as in old by my standards).

This was taken during my first railfanning tour to Dinslaken, where I could spot several class 110 locomotives with their booster trains. I had already left the photo spot at the end of the platform, since the sun was almost gone, but when another 110 turned up, I shot it anyways.

I love how the last few rays of sunlight illuminate the loco's front against the dark background. :)

110 429 was built in 1966, probably on its last inspection deadline extension...

QUESTION!
What Is The Purpose Of The Grab Irons And Step On The Drivers Side, Bit Not Mirroerd On The Batterymans Side?

Nice Shot Too. I Like The Way The Angle Has Made The Sleepers Look Like A Continuous Concrete Tray

That's for the shunter to stand on/grab hold of while the train is moving like so [link] The top handle is also there so that he can reach the UIC socket when coupling. Originally, these locos had step grids and handrails that went all the way around the front, enabling maintenance people to reach/clean the windshields [link] When someone smart discovered that wipers/sponges with long handles would also do the trick, the handrails were reduced to the two handles you see today.

Thanks! Someone commented on this pic [link] saying that there are no ties! x) Never noticed the effect too much myself before others mentioned it.
