Lousy Day

Description

Today was a lousy day for photography, so I uploaded this rather lousy photo of a boring locomotive instead of making a journal.

1.) Wanted to shoot the mighty 103 today. After trying out some different photo spots (to avoid being so damn repetitive) I chose an overpass. But when the train came along, there was no 103 to be seen, just a plain old 120. The driver may have greeted me with a short toot of the horn, but that didn't really make me less disappointed. Perhaps I should buy a smartphone sometime, that way, I could look at DSO on the go, and be informed about such unexpected changes in rolling stock.

2.) While I was pedaling back home, I heard a train coming up behind me. There was no time to get out the camera, so I had to watch in horror as a prewar electric rolled past with a freight train in tow. Would have made such an awesome photo, even the sun was just in the right spot for perfect lighting...

3.) I learned that 110 494 and 486 have already been scrapped, so my tour to the scrapyard in Eschweiler won't happen after all.

4.) Shot this while I was waiting for the 110 hauled booster train again, while the previously sunny weather turned rainy. And the booster train was almost half an hour behind schedule.

5.) Back home, I was sitting in the kitchen, eating pizza, while casually looking out the window. But when I realized what I saw (and heard), I cursed (in Hungarian), ran to my room, grabbed the camera, ran to the balcony, and fired off a few desperate shots. It was a Ju 52, flaps down, about to land at the nearby airfield. Checking the internet revealed that they're doing sightseeing flights today, but this must've been the last one. And the photos weren't really good, which kinda fits, as all photos from today were rather rubbish by my standards. But at least I have shot her up close once.

Oh, and if anyone is interested (haha, good one), this is a Siemens ES64F4, or DB class 189, a member of the EuroSprinter family of very boring electric locomotives.

Main exception being the Taurus of course, one of the few modern electrics that looks good and has some character, in contrast to these wheeled shipping containers...

Boring electric, but good tilt and motion blur, and the timing was good as well. :) :+fav:
