Description
As mentioned in my recent journal, I was having some problems with my beloved Logitech MX1000, namely with random double clicks instead of single clicks. After reversing the button functions, it became clear that it must be a hardware issue, so I set about cleaning the switch, as *JSH50 also suggested. You can see it in the first photo, with its plastic casing still installed, and the actual switch in the second photo. However, while trying to clean the contacts with solvent, the thing just popped out. It's just a tiny copper element, which is squeezed between two mounting brackets, with the spring element keeping it under tension sufficiently. It took a long time of fiddling until I managed to get it back in place... But since I also cleaned it, I've now been rewarded with a mouse that seems to be working normally again, at least for the time being. Also took the opportunity to clean out all the dirt and grime that built up over the last ten years or so, mostly under the scroll wheel.
Gotta love it when you can fix your own stuff!
In retrospect, I should have used a USB connector or something like that as a size reference. That copper thingy looks much bigger than it is in real life!

Erstaunlich wie viel Elektronik da noch drin ist. Heute gibt es so was ja teilweise als single-chip-Produkt.
