One day in Duisburg...

Description

My last pic of the Bayer factory seemed to get a very positive response, with twice as man faves as my usual train shots, so I'll try to save some more pics from that day. But first, another typical train shot :D

A friend of mine who saw this said that if it weren't for the new and typical trashcans on the far right and the vending machine, this pic could have been made several decades ago, even the station sign is the old one, along with the rolling stock we see here. A class 110, which you probably know by now as one of my favourite engines, on the verge of being phased out completely, along with some silverlings [link] , commuter carriages that are almost as old as the engine.

It is interesting to note that this engine, used on the Schwarzwaldbahn before being replaced by new stock, is equipped with a continous train control system, you can see the small rectangular piece of metal under the coupling, just above the ties, which houses the antenna. If you're interested, check out the wiki article on it [link] Always a nice suprise to find such old veterans equipped with technology mostly used by high speed trains such as the ICE. It doesn't use it any more I guess, as the S-Bahn tracks this line uses doesn't have the LZB cable. Still, a nice find isn't it? :)
