Artist's Comments

Okay, it's not really platinum, just plain old vinyl, but I found it fascinating to see how the flash reflected off the groove's outer side. :)

My "new" Dual CS 481 A turntable after cleaning. The A behind the number denotes that it has an S shaped tone arm, something one couldn't normally buy. Dual only sold such turntables to other manufacturers who put them into their own HiFi racks or jukeboxes etc., making it kind of a rarity. Only a handful of models were produced with such a tone arm for a limited time, so I'm quite happy to have a little gem that is even in perfect working order. :)

It's playing an old Hungarian LP, the album "Közepeuropai Hobo Blues" (Middle European Hobo Blues) by the Hobo Blues Band, we're in the middle of the song "Hey Joe", of which I played a short bit when testing the turntable: [link]

Here's the full song, if you're interested: [link]

Here's how it looked before cleaning: [link]

Thank you . I've just spent almost an hour listening to the "Hobo Blues Band", and really enjoyed the music. Please note I said "music", because being unable to understand Hungarian, it was the music I listened to.

I can hear (or think I can) the influence of a lot of groups from the late 1960s and the early 1970s, including John Mayal, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fleetwood Mac, and Free, to name just a few.

Heh, you're welcome, it's a pleasant surprise that people take so much interest in them, I think CJ also took a liking to it, though like you, referring only to the music. I wouldn't know what influenced them, but a lot of bands did, and in their early years, they played the songs of other bands before starting to write their own. When you're in a socialist dictatorship, you take what you can get from the West, most prominently The Stones, or Jimi Hendrix etc. Some songs even explicity say how they started doing it thirty years ago in the West, while in the East, they said calm down, no need for hurry, or about how they could never rock in their young years, always being dragged to operettas on weekends.

I feel that their music is very diverse, a blend between Blues and Rock, not to mention the great voice of Deák "Bill" Gyula. I only like the first three albums, because after that, Gyula left the Band for a solo career, and I only have the first three on LP anyways :XD: I did also buy them on CD, but they mixed them somewhat differently, and the guitars sound a bit weird, as if some distortion would have been added... However, with the "new" turntable, I can just listen to the good old LPs with even better quality sound than before. :)

And how! :) These machines are well known for working for a very long time, and those parts that might break are easily fixable.
