Makes one proud to live in Germany, a country with a long history of high speed rail travel. At the beginning of the 20th century, multiphase trainsets were able to reach speeds of 210kph (131mph), the mighty class 103 was pulling trains at 200kph on a daily basis, there were even early high speed EMUs like the ET 403, now a forgotten relic... High speed trains like the IC (InterCity) and the even better ICE (InterCityExpress) have become an established and ubiquitous sight around here, providing fast and safe connections between major cities. Here's a little assortment of the first and latest generation of ICE trainsets. Clockwise, starting top left: ICE trainset of the first generation Two third generation ICE trains Third generation in the foreground, first generation behind it Three third gens in one pic ^^ Also check out these three edits by |
