Here we can see the shafthead tower 12 of the famous colliery Zollverein, which survived intact and is a quiet witness to the once great coal mining era in the Ruhr area. Not a very good pic, I admit, and I didn't even have my own camera back then (2006), but this perspective was the most satisfying. I hope it still looks acceptable ^^

I don't know if you intended it, but the picture looks very much like the solarized effect achieved in the dark room with a quick flash of light when the paper's in the developer.

To be honest, I don't even remember, this was the first time ever that I used Photoshop, and looking for an image to play with, I found one from my visit to Zollverein ^^ Probably very primitive from a technical standpoint, but hey, we all start out small. Thanks for featuring it :D

It looks to me like you've used the desaturate then negative tools, but whichever you have used, it is an interesting effect.
I imagine that it's the same as in this country, most of the headgears have disappeared, with only a few left as memorials to the brave men who gave their lives for give us heat and light, as well as all the by-products.

To be honest, I don't quite remember, it was the first time I've ever touched photoshop and played around for quite some time before I left it like this. I think I've used the neon glow tool, and desaturate, that's for sure, maybe some contrast as well.

Luckly, they didn't just leave the headgear, but the entire complex, including all buildings belonging to the mine and the adjacent coking plant [link] Still, many others have been knocked down without a second thought for their historic and symbolic value... Here's a great site about this topic, with pics from all around Europe [link]
