Description

Double traction of class 151 freight locomotives with 8000hp each, ample power for a short train of hoppers.

Interestingly, these were directly based on the famous 103, with the two most obvious similarities being the bogies & suspension, as well as the overall construction with a strong frame and non-structural body hoods. These only had to support themselves and the roof equipment, easily unbolting from the frame for maintenance. You can see the hooks on the roof where the crane's ropes can be attached. Ironically, this also made it much easier to scrap them, no cutting torch required to get to the innards.

Due to time constraints, many components from the classes 110, 139 and 140 were also used on the 150, which made sure that there were no teething troubles or initial reliability problems. However, this also meant that the locomotives were not exactly state of the art as far as technology goes, not having asynchronous drive motors or regenerative brakes.

These were also the last six-axle electrics to be commissioned by DB, as well as the last locomotives to feature a "classic" cab instead of the standardized cab that DB introduced while the 151 was in production.
