Floating through Vohwinkel

If you look at this map, you'll see that the Schwebebahn follows the path of the Wupper almost all the time. One Terminus and three stations however, are located in the densely populated district of Vohwinkel, the tracks now being suspended above the streets.

This was shot from a spot suggested to Torsten and me by Peter Bosbach, who has a very extensive and up to date website about the Schwebebahn. It's the parking lot of a "Plus" supermarket, which lets you get shots of the trains without creating the "falling over" perspective, and without telezooming down the line from a station. Also, I wanted to get a nice portrait shot of a train with the original WSW livery, a pleasant mixture of light blue and yellow. The great majority of the trains have some kind of advert on them.

But even without having trains as centerpiece of a photo, this section of the Schwebebahn makes for very astonishing views. Might just be because there's nothing like this in use elsewhere... Again, this also shows why the 110 year old idea hasn't faded: No traffic jam will hold you up.
