Description
I originally set out to capture the magnificent 103, as it returned to Cologne this afternoon. But DB being useless at everything resulted in a half-hour delay, and when the train did come around, it was dark, cloudy, with both autofocus and auto white balance not reacting properly. This resulted in a couple of ruined photos and a rather unhappy Soma.
However, while I was waiting, there was something else that caught my eye: An MD-11, making a turn towards the Cologne-Bonn Airport! What a nice surprise! This is one of the former passenger jets that were converted for freight use, after this type fell into disfavour with passenger airlines. The fact that they got a second chance in the freight sector makes these trijets a bit more interesting, providing a story that sets them apart from your average Airbus or Boeing.

The MD11 was certainly an improvement on the DC10, but I'd still take a Lockheed L1011 Tristar over either of the other two any day of the week.
