Speed Demon

Since the Advanced Photon Source has a circumference of 1104 meters (3622 ft), an ample amount of industrial trikes can be found parked all along the ring, with many videos on youtube showing crazed scientists riding around the entire facility while filming themselves. What foolish nonsense! ...yes, I did it too. And since only one of the rear wheels is actually driven, you can do burnouts with it. Not with actual smoke, but in my imagination, I was leaving a trail of fire! Sometimes, I surprise even myself with my mature and serious behavior as a renowned physicist. Renowned? Indeed! So much in fact that people have been referring to me as Dr. if they don't know me, probably because my aura of awesomeness suggests that I already have my PhD, which I don't. Some guy even referred to me as Professor and sent me his CV, hoping to get a postdoctoral position at my research group. I didn't yet have the courage to tell him that if he would have looked at our website as he claims he has, he would have seen that I'm not actually the group leader. Oh well. At least I seem to be on the right path if people who don't know me just assume that I'm a Professor. They probably saw this photo and then knew straight away with what kind of genius they're dealing with.

This was taken by a colleague towards the very end of our beamtime, which we spent in shifts, usually working during the night and sleeping during the day. Good thing that it matched well with our original timezone.
