What would Gordon Freeman do? by shenanigan87 What would Gordon Freeman do? by shenanigan87
Performing measurements at a particle accelerator.

I brought along my Half-Life shirt.

I'm a huge idiot.

And I actually found a crowbar.

I just had to take this photo.

Should there be a resonance cascade, I'd know exactly what to do! And yes, that's the same industrial trike that you saw in previous photos of me being dumb.

Interesting fact 1: You can actually see by the background that this huge building is circular.

Interesting fact 2: The open door you see to the right is actually a pneumatically operated, lead-lined radiation shield, the entrace to station 3-ID-D. This is the station where we performed all our experiments during the beamtimes in 2016 and 2015, as well as 2013 when I wasn't yet part of this team. In order to actually open the shutter that lets the X-ray beam coming from the storage ring into the station, the door has to be closed and locked, which you can only do after performing a station search, aka pushing some buttons in opposite corners of the station with warning lights flashing and Nagging Nancy telling you to get out of there. This year though, we used a slightly different experimental setup, which required a much more focused beam. As a result, we moved to Station B, which left D unused. Just in case you were wondering why the door was wide open, which I'm sure you were!

Now we know the rest of the story.

Crowbars are such useful brute-force tools.

I'm still glad I didn't end up needing one though. :D
